The Artifact of Urban Time

We can imagine the fictional bell ringer of Notre Dame's Victor M. Hugo, consider the passage of days in the shadows in the geometry of the Gothic church and indicate where the bells, which in turn synchronizes the daily activities of the city of Paris. In this cluster-building man, the movement of the earth than the sun, reflected in a gradient shadow to read your mind and then transmitted as sound information abroad. The cathedral, with the operator's hunchback, constituted a control center of the civil year.Through the dizzying evolution of cities, appeared at times physical inventions and mental tools "michanefsan" such a concept of time to allow the extraction of your measurable. Thus, we can approach the city as a laboratory culture to capture the time and also like a factory production units. Just as the mapping of land paved the way for planning the site, representations of time led to the birth of a tacit use of the space program-calendar. With this system in hand, yet measured the dimensions of human life. The supervision of years to prehistoric times associated with the periodic occurrence of weather phenomena, geographic features swings, circles, animal behavior and movements of stellar bodies. The territory has exported the concept of organic time.
All these rates of environmental land-and sky-drums were collected in stem "geographical journals. The empirical sense of decay brought people together to effect an irreversible mechanism, while the ancestral lines anaparastathikan a series of amulets and totems in stratified sites, so by measuring the passage of time. The frantic collection of materials and accumulation of generations, traditions and sounds designated lines in space, so it can be traced back to earlier statements. This layout will be transformed through human history, from an "average storage time" in a sync method that haunted the bourgeois mind today.Within the medieval Benedictine monasteries, according Clock-building mechanisms, the time was transferred gradually built a program.
These same buildings were built so as to control the daily allocation of manpower to distribute lines rituals, streams of prayers, meditations and hymns. It is as if chosen as a version of asceticism, the automation of the body through the submission of a calendar protocol.
The horarium, was such a framed set of regulations drawn up for the constructive use of time-the "conveyed by God" - by setting strict time periods for sleep, work, prayer, food. Within these "machines" So the sacred texts were a peasant collective calendar, insulated walls of the aforementioned geographic timings of the earth. The bells, after a process of "apomagefsis time" replaced by a hum of machinery, maintain and synchronize the city life. The moving belt transport factory as another embodiment of the timeline at the beginning of last century, became a symbol of new production flow and as a result of the measurement time. The train station, the telegraph, mail, steady flow of supply cities with materials, information or work synchronized members of the emerging industrial city in joint breaths. And most importantly, all these artificial periodic movements michanefsan a sense of normality established the routine, perhaps the greatest achievement of urban culture, according to sociologist H. Lefebvre. Like this emerged the clear and repeated in daily life, faith that can be copied unchanged, forever. Within the microcosm of everyday time adapted to the dimensions of domestic life, a controlled environment away from uncontrollable accidents of natural phenomena. If the 19th and 20th centuries were the most mechanic centuries, the urban culture of the 21st century revolves as ever around the careful regulation of time, until the whole of life planning.
The calendar switches from a simple list of activities, a surface projection of desire, goals, and especially the future version of a human life. In our time dealing with a detailed design of our autobiography, tracking and recording transactions and operations. Familiar with a particular calendar when we are still young, so keeping a mental picture of the annual map, along with the organization into seasons, months and days.
The mark of  calendar is for civil time, that constituted the first walls and engravings of the city for the organization of space. The traditional annual calendar is already functioning as a tool of occupation: the surface of the wrap all sorts of activities, movements, parties, meetings and urban rhythmic functions revolve around our core inhabitation. The diaries thus represent the plans and impressions of modern habitable space, viewed as an imaginary timeline of geography, habits, rhythms and timings. The house there is converted into an observatory of the unfolding of the civil year, just like operating the temple of Notre-Dame in the first paragraph, on the part of an experienced operator. We watched a brief evolution of the log through the different styles of each era: the geographical built-in calendars, from there to the end mechanical and programming calendars.
Maybe it's time to imagine a future diary, both technologically sophisticated, both in content and information so staff to become a true spirit of a human life, as no testimony, memory or biography managed to work in the past. There, one person on this will appear as the organic result of a series of records and memories, both as a cause for future pre-designed image. On the other hand, can leave the self-referential recording and collection time-point for the sake of a free roaming between facts, free from the stress of capturing the everyday life. Whether they return to a primordial dipping in the infinity of unstructured time, or if you learn to divide increasingly the rest of our lives to thoughtfully compose the future will depend on the forms will take time in the modern urban thinking Let's wait patiently revolutions similar to those that turned the image into theatrical release or the portrait of modernism in a cloud-point moving .- 17.04.2010

I’m gushing over Galerie Gosserez’s latest exhibit of German designer Valentin Loellmann’s M&Mme collection. What I love about these pieces is that the legs are all clearly traditional shapes but the pieces scream modern.
From the press release:
…sensitive work about material and its power of evocation, the narrative mode of which also draws on a certain Dutch design: the contrast of nature and technical subjects, past and present. The collection has been conceived like a family led to develop over the course of new additions. Galerie Gosserez therefore invites you to witness these first three pieces at the beginning of a dynasty: a bench; a cabinet with a door and a cabinet with drawers produced in wood and polyester. Pieces of furniture to consider like the start of an alphabet, whose future generations will evolve as inevitable genetic branches dictate.
